Vuzix VIP Partner Upskill Introduces Next Generation of Skylight Platform Optimized for the Vuzix M300 Smart Glasses

Next Generation of Skylight to Enable Faster and Broader Adoption of Augmented Reality Within Enterprises

Tailwinds’ Take: nice to see Vuzix and Upskill continuing to work together. Upskill has been a promoter of Google Glass, so we’re appreciative of them being more vocal with VUZI, the industry leader in our opinion. Perhaps their customers are demanding the M300 over the competition?

ROCHESTER, N.Y., Oct. 11, 2017 /PRNewswire/ — Vuzix® Corporation (NASDAQ: VUZI), (“Vuzix” or, the “Company”), a leading supplier of Smart Glasses, Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) technologies and products for the consumer and enterprise markets, is pleased to announce that the company’s VIP Partner Upskill has released the next generation of Skylight Platform on the Vuzix M300 to enable faster and broader adoption of augmented reality within enterprises.

The next generation of Skylight is the most significant product update in Upskill’s history, and applies the lessons learned over the last 5 years of Skylight being in the market. This new release offers an even more scalable AR platform to support mass deployment of smart glasses across a global workforce, improves user interface to ease adoption, and adds capabilities that allow rapid creation of new Skylight Applications for faster return on investment and a lower total cost of ownership for customers.

“Over the last four years, Upskill has worked closely with Vuzix to deliver the leading industrial smart glasses solution to enterprise customers around the world,” said Jay Kim, Chief Strategy Officer at Upskill. “Our latest Skylight release has been optimized for the M300, drastically shortening the time and money needed to operationalize augmented reality.”

“Upskill continues to be on the leading edge of solution providers for enterprise smart glasses,” said Paul Travers, President and CEO of Vuzix.  “The next generation of Skylight optimized for the Vuzix M300 has the ability to have an immediate impact on the pace of adoption in the enterprise industry.”

  1. What are your thoughts on the next catalysts for VUZI? All the technology, 1st movers, partners, POCs, embeddedness in the market, patents, etc. in an upcoming explosive market are definitely worth substantially north of a 100 MM valuation. Is it a show me stock since we have been listening to PR and hype for months, and it has not shown any real visibility into revenue? Toshiba is in the wings and another large waveguide partner. Is it that the market is expecting another capital raise? We are sitting at the lows on the SP while the future story looks better than 2 years ago.

    • I think you hit the nail on the head when you said it’s a “show me stock”. They will put up good revenue growth this Q, but nowhere near to cash-flow positive. The question is not “can they grow and reach cash-flow positive?” More, it’s around their ability to hit a hockey-stick revenue inflection. They need to show a BIG order from a BIG customer. Until then, it is a neat gizmo that customers are experimenting with.

With VUZI there’s always fear of another capital raise. If it’s to build out orders, that would be great. If it’s because they are burning it waiting for the industry to launch, not great.

I agree the future looks very bright. Once the market gets visibility into the actual ramp in Augmented Reality, and Vuzix’s fit in the space, things will take off.
